Mewelde Moore 2001

Aug. 23, 2002

Mewelde Moore became the first player in NCAA Division I-A history to rush for over 1,250 yards and catch more than 60 passes in the same season in 2001.

As a sophomore, Moore broke Tulane's 53-year old record for single-season rushing (1,421) and shattered the school and Conference USA single-season all-purpose yardage marks (2,259).

After rushing for 201 yards against Southern, Moore came back the next weekend and broke the school record with 249 rushing yards against Cincinnati. He also set a school and conference record in that game with 336 all-purpose yards.

Fortifying the argument for Moore as the "most complete" back in the nation, the Wave star tallied 131 rushing yards and 130 receiving yards against Navy. It was the first time in school history that a Wave player broke 100 yards in both categories.

The first player in Tulane history to garner more than 2,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in his career, Moore owns six of the top eight all-purpose yardage games in school history.

Already the owner of 11 school records, Mewelde Moore needs 784 rushing yards to break Tulane's 54-year old school record of 3,095 set by Eddie Price (1946-49).
