Women's Basketball Travels To Face East Carolina

Feb. 27, 2003

NEW ORLEANS, La. - -

Tulane at East Carolina - Game Notes

The Tulane women's basketball team begins its final weekend of the 2002-03 regular season on Friday, as the Green Wave travel to face Conference USA rival East Carolina. Tip-off for Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST.

The game can be heard on the radio in the New Orleans area on WRBH, which is located at 88.3 on the FM dial. Fans all over the world can also catch the action via the internet by clicking on www.TulaneGreenWave.com.

Tulane enters the contest with an 18-7 overall record and are currently third in Conference USA with a 9-3 league mark. The Green Wave have won four straight, with wins over C-USA foes South Florida, UAB, Houston and TCU making up the string of victories. Tulane is currently receiving votes in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches' polls.

East Carolina enters Friday's game with a 12-13 overall record and are 4-8 in Conference USA play. The Pirates will be playing their first home game since Feb. 9, as the squad is coming off of a four-game road trip. The Pirates are on a two-game winning streak after posting a pair of road wins over UAB and South Florida last weekend.

Tulane and East Carolina have played just twice, with each team claiming one win. East Carolina's victory came on Nov. 29, 1986, when the Pirates posted a 75-65 victory in Statesboro, Ga. Last season, in the final game of the regular season, Tulane posted a 68-51 win in Fogelman Arena. Gwen Slaughter led Tulane with 19 points, 15 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots, while Teana McKiver added 18 points, 10 boards and six rejections.

Following Friday's game, Tulane will close out the regular season with a Sunday contest against current C-USA leader Charlotte. That game will be televised in the New Orleans area on Cox Sports Television with a 12 p.m. CST tip-off.
