Tulane Athletics

Letter from the Athletics Director

October 2008

Dear Friend of Tulane Athletics,

The fall is well under way and amazingly we're already on the verge of basketball season! Before I mention the many reasons to be excited about our Green Wave basketball programs I want to highlight a couple noteworthy efforts.

As you've heard me say many times before, a key part of what makes a Tulane student-athlete so special is their service to the community. On September 25th, Tulane Athletics hosted "Bring Your 'A' Game - Celebrating Education in New Orleans" in conjunction with the home football game against SMU. It was a great opportunity to show the country, via a live broadcast on CBS College Sports, that New Orleans' primary and secondary education is back and better than ever. Nearly 750 Recovery School District students, identified for their outstanding work in the classroom, were in attendance and were provided free busing, a tour of the Superdome, pre-game interactive events with Green Wave student-athletes, dinner, game tickets and a chance to come onto the field for the introduction of the TU football team. All other area schoolchildren, from charter, public, private, and parochial schools, were also admitted for free if they presented any assignment graded 'A'. It was a special night and I can assure everyone that these schoolchildren enjoyed the opportunity to cheer the Green Wave to victory.

I am also pleased to announce that the Tulane Athletics Fund (TAF) recently launched the TAF Nationwide Challenge. The TAF Nationwide Challenge is made possible through the leadership of one outstanding Tulanian who has individually committed a six-figure gift to TAF in the form of a challenge to the Tulane community across the country: increase TAF membership by a minimum $100,000 or more in new or increased donations by May 30, 2009, and Tulane Athletics will receive an additional $100,000, or more, from this outstanding donor. Help us take advantage of this exceptional generosity by making a gift or pledge as soon as possible!

As I mentioned, the Green Wave men's and women's basketball teams are preparing for their seasons. Fogelman Arena will be the place to be all winter long and we need your help in making it the home-court advantage we all know it can be. Last year, Dave Dickerson and his program took another step forward as we finished 17-15 overall, including wins over Auburn, Georgia, St. John's, and LSU, and 10-6 in the friendly confines of Fogelman Arena. The team returns key veterans Kevin Sims, Daniel Puckett and Robinson Louisme, and is anxious to take the next step and participate in the postseason.

Lisa Stockton and the Green Wave women's team have high hopes as well as our top two leading scorers return, including all-conference point guard Ashley Langford. Other key returnees include Megan Valicevic and Brittany Lindsey. After a year hiatus, the team is anxious for a return to postseason play. Buy your season tickets for both men's and women's basketball today and get ready for the action at Fogelman! Call 504-861-WAVE or visit tulanegreenwave.com where you can find information about the new "My Account Manager" program, which gives you the ability to buy or renew tickets online, forward them to family and friends when you're not able to use them, and also purchase tickets and donate them back to Tulane for our community service efforts. On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and staff, thank you for doing your part in supporting Tulane Athletics and our exceptional student-athletes.

Roll Wave!
